Some market numbers become less interesting once you ask what has to happen after the transaction. That was my reaction to the €300M+ figure around NPEX and Dusk. NPEX is a licensed Dutch MTF, while Dusk Trade is being developed around regulated market activity and an onchain workflow. The number sounded like evidence of scale. Then I started thinking about the exit
Dusk Trade can reduce friction across discovery, onboarding, trading, payment coordination and settlement. That matters, but a cleaner transaction path cannot create a counterparty. An asset can become easier to issue, transfer and settle, while the holder still needs a buyer at a practical price
So I ran a simple stress test. Suppose €300M enters the workflow, but only 5% — €15M — represents active secondary liquidity. A hypothetical €6M concentrated sell would consume 40% of that depth. Nothing has failed at the protocol level. Settlement can remain deterministic and market data can remain accurate. The pressure has simply moved into the market-making layer: inventory, capital, risk limits and the willingness to keep quoting when holders move together
That changes how I read the NPEX connection. It is evidence of Dusk being considered within a regulated market structure, but it does not prove secondary liquidity scales with assets entering the system. Reducing issuance and settlement friction may make the remaining dependency more visible. The bottleneck is not settlement efficiency, but how much risk-bearing capital can absorb the trade when liquidity is tested. I also keep this separate from the Dusk thesis: Dusk has utility through gas and staking, but institutional asset volume alone does not establish token value capture
That distinction matters when normal liquidity disappears. The question I keep coming back to is narrower than whether €300M can reach an onchain market: when several holders want out together, who is willing to keep supplying the bids, and what makes that liquidity durable rather than merely available on normal days?
