As the crowd grows the number of possible candidates grows too. That is the basic intuition behind an anonymity set.
Think about 10 people leaving the same room If only one person is carrying a certain package guessing becomes easy. Put 1000 people in the room and the same observation becomes much less useful. The technology has not magically changed but the uncertainty has.
