Kept coming back to this line in Dusk's docs — a regulator can verify a rule was followed without ever seeing the transaction that followed it. Not "trust us," an actual proof. Ownership limits, eligibility, transfer restrictions, whatever the rule is, the chain shows the proof and keeps the data shielded. Most chains that claim to be "compliant" just make everything public and call that transparency, which honestly defeats the point of doing this on a privacy chain in the first place. So the selective part is the whole idea, not a workaround.
Where I get stuck, though, is what happens after the fact. A proof tells you a rule held at the moment of the transaction. It doesn't hand anyone a trail if something later needs untangling — a dispute between two parties, an investigation, someone claiming a transfer restriction was quietly ignored. Cryptography can confirm compliance was true. I'm not sure it can reconstruct a story the way an old paper record can, and regulated finance runs on being able to go back and reconstruct things years later, not just confirm them in the moment.
DUSK's sitting around $0.065 today, up close to 7% in the last day, market cap near $32M per CoinMarketCap — numbers moving, not really the point here though.

Genuinely don't know — does proof of compliance hold up once someone actually needs to dig into what happened, or is that the part nobody's tested yet?
