I'm not so sure.

Poseidon became attractive because it is extremely friendly to zero-knowledge proving. But Ethereum's base layer isn't the place to choose a technology simply because it is faster or more efficient inside a proof.

If more established hashes such as SHA-2 or BLAKE-family approaches become practical enough for modern proving systems, Ethereum has a choice:
keep optimizing around specialized cryptography — or simplify the foundation and reduce long-term assumptions.
