The ratification result is part of Dusk that starts bothering me once an application writes "settled" too early.

Not proposal.

Not even validation.

Those can both look perfectly healthy.

A Dusk block gets proposed. Validation committee checks it. app sees that clean validation state and marks balance settled.

Fine.

Then the collateral engine starts counting that Dusk balance as available capacity.

Thats where whole thing gets uglier.

Because Succinct Attestation still has ratification sitting behind validation, and the ratification result is the thing that actually pushes DuskDS across deterministic finality.

I’d been treating validation like the important check and ratification like ceremony after the fact.

Wrong.

Same block. Very different authority.

The Dusk app can have a green balance row. The collateral engine can already include it in available capacity. Maybe the position size moves because of it.

And ratification still isn’t there.

Lovely. Very calm little green row.

I’ve seen teams trust the green row because the math downstream already looks sane. That’s exactly when I get nervous.

On Dusk foundation I can't really collapse those stages without lying to myself. Proposal gets the block in play, validation says it checked out, but the ratification result is still the thing DuskDS needs before deterministic finality is actually done.

So now the app is effectively spending a Dusk finality state it does not have yet.

That’s the bruise.

Nothing about validation result has to be fake. collateral calculation can be internally consistent. balance row can look completely normal.

It just got ahead of the ratification boundary.

And once the collateral engine starts using that balance, "almost final" stops being a wording problem.

Now the collateral engine is leaning on a Dusk ratification result that still doesn't exist.

So if Dusk validation passed but the ratification result still isn't there...

what exactly did that application mean when it wrote "settled"?
