Most chains still lean on standard proof-of-stake validator selection. Dusk runs Segregated Byzantine Agreement instead — discrete stake amounts combined with random cryptographic sorting to pick who participates in a given round. It’s a different security model, not just a rebrand of PoS with extra steps.
Then there’s the ZK layer. Dusk uses PLONK-based zero-knowledge proofs paired with its own Zero-Knowledge Utility Tokens, which is what actually makes selective disclosure possible — you can prove something is compliant without exposing the underlying data to everyone on-chain. That’s the technical piece regulated finance actually needs, and it’s very different from just “hiding your balance.”
What convinced me this isn’t purely theoretical: mainnet has been live since early 2025, and the network has already pushed real upgrades on top of it — Aegis went live in March, and the Boreas testnet update is actively laying groundwork for DuskEVM. This is a chain shipping, not one still selling a roadmap PDF.
Worth digging into the docs yourself before writing this off as “just another privacy coin.”
