Cboe Wants to Turn Bitcoin and Ether Into a 3x Trade ⚡

Cboe has asked the SEC for permission to list the first U.S. exchange-traded funds offering three-times leveraged exposure to Bitcoin and Ether, according to The Block. If approved, the products would give traders a way to seek roughly three times the daily performance of the underlying assets without directly holding them.

That would be a major expansion of crypto’s regulated derivatives ecosystem. But leverage cuts both ways: a 3x product can magnify gains and losses, and its performance over periods longer than one day can differ significantly from three times the asset’s return because of daily resets and volatility. 👀

The proposal also shows how far traditional market infrastructure has moved into crypto. Spot ETFs brought Bitcoin and Ether into mainstream portfolios; now exchanges are pushing for increasingly sophisticated tools around those same assets. The SEC’s decision could determine just how much leverage U.S. investors will be able to access through regulated crypto products.
