@Dusk_Foundation #dusk $DUSK Dusk came up again on my feed at 8:30 PM, and this time I actually went and read the Hedger docs instead of skimming the announcement thread. Small detail that stopped me: under Hedger, you don't get one wallet address, you get two. A normal EVM address for interacting with contracts, and a separate Hedger address that holds your encrypted balance. Transfers move through ElGamal encryption with additive homomorphism, and a ZK proof checks the math is correct before your account state even updates. In-browser proving supposedly clears in under two seconds, which is fast for anything ZK-related.
Here's the part that actually made me pause. @Dusk_Foundation is upfront that Hedger trades away something its older privacy system, Zedger, could do: full anonymity. Zedger was UTXO-based and could hide identity entirely. Hedger, because it has to work inside the EVM's account model to stay compatible with normal Solidity tooling, keeps balances and amounts encrypted but not the acting address itself. So you get confidential transactions, not anonymous ones — and compliance gets bolted on through allowlisting on top of that.
That's a real tradeoff, not a marketing footnote, and I'm still not sure how much it matters for the institutions Dusk is courting. Compatibility over anonymity might be exactly the right call for regulated finance. Or it might be the compromise nobody asks about until an auditor does. $DUSK sits underneath all of this either way.
