The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will discuss the future of crypto regulation at its inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee (IAC) meeting on August 20, as the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate.

The meeting’s opening session, “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity,” will examine challenges to creating a durable federal crypto market structure while balancing innovation, market integrity, and customer protection.

The timing could be significant for major cryptocurrencies such as $XRP , which has remained closely tied to the broader debate over U.S. digital-asset regulation. Greater regulatory clarity could potentially improve institutional confidence and create a more favorable environment for established crypto assets.

With the CLARITY Act facing uncertainty, the CFTC and SEC are signaling plans to provide regulatory clarity through existing authorities. The SEC is also considering new rules for crypto investment contracts and innovation exemptions for tokenized stock trading.

The IAC will also discuss AI and prediction markets, including the regulatory battle surrounding platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi. With the CLARITY Act failing to resolve these disputes, the August 20 meeting could offer fresh clues about the direction of U.S. crypto policy.

With the CLARITY Act failing to resolve the prediction-market dispute, regulatory uncertainty remains.
