I’ve always thought privacy in finance becomes truly useful only when it can coexist with compliance. That’s why DuskEVM caught my attention.
DuskEVM is bringing the familiar Solidity and EVM development environment into @dusk, but the interesting part for me is what happens when Hedger enters the picture.
Hedger is Dusk’s privacy engine built specifically for the EVM layer. Instead of relying only on zero knowledge proofs, it combines homomorphic encryption with ZK proofs. This means encrypted values can remain private while their correctness can still be verified. Dusk says holdings, balances, and transfer amounts can stay encrypted while transactions remain auditable when required.
For me, that distinction matters.
Imagine an institution moving regulated securities onchain. It may not want positions or transaction details exposed publicly, but regulators still need legitimate ways to review activity. Hedger is designed around exactly this tension between confidentiality and accountability.
There’s also a practical developer angle. Hedger integrates with standard Ethereum tooling, so Solidity developers don’t have to abandon the ecosystem they already understand.
The bigger picture I see is simple: DuskEVM isn’t trying to add privacy just for the sake of hiding information. It’s building privacy that financial applications can actually work with.
That could make the Solidity era much more interesting for regulated onchain finance.
