I still remember sitting in a Crypto Twitter space back in 2022 where co-host asked: "Can we ever have a compliant private blockchain?" The room went quiet. Then the usual answers came — "just use Ethereum with ZK rollups" or "regulators will figure it out."

Nobody had a convincing answer. Because Bitcoin and Ethereum were never built for regulated finance. Every transaction is public. Great for trustless verification, terrible if you're a fund manager with legal obligations around client data.

Privacy coins went the opposite direction — Monero hides everything. Regulators responded by delisting them.

That's the gap that's been sitting in the middle of crypto for years. Nobody comfortable on either side.

What I'm seeing? Dusk is attempting something in that space. Phoenix transactions use ZK proofs to keep transaction details private while still allowing authorized audits. Zedger handles compliance specifically for securities.

I'm still figuring out what this means practically — whether institutions will actually move toward infrastructure like this or stick with what they know.

I'm Curious what others who've been following this space longer think about it.
