My friend asked me about DUSK a simple question recently: why does a financial blockchain need privacy if blockchain is supposed to be transparent?
I think that is actually an important question.
Imagine you hold a tokenized financial asset. You may want the transaction to be verifiable but you probably do not want every detail about your holdings and activity visible to the entire network.
That is one reason @Dusk_Foundation caught my attention.
DUSK is a Layer-1 built for regulated onchain finance. Its architecture supports confidential transfers while also allowing transparent accounts when public visibility is required. The idea is not to hide everything. It is to give financial applications better control over what information is revealed.
I also found the use of zero-knowledge technology interesting. A user can prove that certain conditions are satisfied without exposing all the underlying information. This can be useful when privacy and compliance need to work together.
Dusk also introduces the Confidential Security Contract (XSC) standard for the privacy-enabled tokenized securities. This is important because tokenized securities can have rules around ownership and transfers that ordinary tokens do not always need.
My friend then asked me about whether privacy means regulators lose visibility.
Not necessarily.
Dusk focuses on the selective disclosure. Sensitive information can remain protected while the necessary evidence can still be provided to authorized parties.
That balance is what I find more interesting about Dusk. Financial markets need transparency but they also need confidentiality. Trying to provide both at the protocol level could become increasingly important as more real-world financial assets move onchain.
