CFTC Warns Prediction Markets Over Trading Incentives ⚖️
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is raising concerns about how prediction-market platforms structure trading incentives and reward programs.
Platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket have seen rapid growth, but the regulator says some incentive-related filings may not provide enough compliance detail.
The concern is that aggressive rewards tied to trading activity could encourage users to trade mainly to hit volume targets, potentially increasing risks such as wash trading, pre-arranged trades and market manipulation.
The CFTC’s message is not that prediction markets should stop growing. Instead, platforms need stronger compliance controls and properly structured incentive programs as the sector expands.
More trading volume is valuable only when market integrity remains intact.
