KOSPI jumps by about 5% and activates the Buy-Side Sidecar mechanism
The Korean KOSPI index rose sharply, driven by a large buying wave in semiconductor stocks—especially Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, which recorded gains exceeding 7%.
This rapid surge prompted the Korea Exchange to activate the Buy-Side Sidecar, a temporary mechanism designed to calm algorithmic trading when sharp market moves occur.
The most important message: risk appetite in chips and artificial intelligence is returning strongly, but the speed of the rally also means higher volatility.
