According to Yonhap, unionized workers at SK hynix Inc. are close to launching an integrated labor union aimed at bringing more than half of the chipmaker's employees into a majority union. A preparatory task force plans to file for the union's establishment and launch it as early as Wednesday, with the goal of recruiting about 18,000 of SK hynix's roughly 35,000 employees. Three separate unions currently negotiate with management independently. The task force said its top priority is to unite employees across job categories and regions and create a union where all members have equal voting rights and decide issues directly, rather than through delegates. It also cited performance-based compensation as a key issue and is considering an alliance with the largest labor union at Samsung Electronics Co.
