According to CNBC, the Trump administration on Tuesday said it is implementing a rule that ends the use of federal Medicaid and CHIP funding for gender-affirming care for children and youth. The rule, set to take effect on Oct. 13, would bar U.S. funding in the two federal-state health programs from covering puberty blockers, hormones and surgical operations for minors, while state money could still pay for the treatments. CMS said the decision followed a review by HHS that it said found evidence gaps, serious safety concerns and insufficient support to justify federal taxpayer funding for these interventions for children. The rule does not affect federal coverage of mental health services for children.
