🚨 CLARITY Act showdown set for September

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has filed cloture on a motion to bring the CLARITY Act to the floor, setting up a key procedural vote once the Senate reconvenes on September 15.

Here’s what that means: cloture requires 60 votes, so Republicans will need Democratic support to clear the hurdle. It doesn’t guarantee the bill passes, just that it gets taken up for debate.

Negotiations stalled before the August recess over disagreements on ethics provisions (restricting officials and their families from profiting off crypto while in office) and stablecoin reward rules. Lawmakers are reportedly working on a bipartisan ethics addendum to bridge the gap.

The CLARITY Act would establish a federal market structure for digital assets and clarify SEC vs. CFTC oversight, one of the most consequential pieces of crypto legislation in the pipeline.
