What If You Bought the AI Sector at Its Mid-June Peak?
The AI crypto sector reached a roughly $22.3 billion market cap around mid-June 2026 before giving back most of those gains.
So what would happen if you had put $10,000 into each of these AI tokens at their six-month highs?
According to the data in the chart, the results today would look very different:
* KAITO: $14,090 (+40.9%)
* FIL: $8,220 (-17.8%)
* ICP: $8,040 (-19.6%)
* INJ: $8,120 (-18.8%)
* VIRTUAL: $7,960 (-20.4%)
* TAO: $6,940 (-30.6%)
* NEAR: $6,370 (-36.3%)
* RENDER: $6,090 (-39.1%)
* FET: $5,880 (-41.2%)
* VELVET: $5,430 (-45.7%)
* KITE: $5,370 (-46.3%)
* VVV: $5,300 (-47.0%)
The standout is obvious.
KAITO is the only token in this list currently above its mid-June level, while the rest have given back anywhere from roughly 18% to 47%.
But there’s a more useful takeaway here than simply calling one token a winner.
A strong narrative can lift an entire sector, but sector momentum doesn’t mean every token will retain those gains.
At the peak, the AI narrative was attracting attention and capital. Once momentum reversed, the difference between individual projects became much more visible.
That’s why buying into a hot sector isn’t just about asking:
“Do I believe in AI?”
Sometimes the more important question is:
“Am I buying the narrative, or am I buying the momentum at its peak?”
