South Africa just proposed banning corporate cross-border stablecoin transactions. Not a surprise — the US Treasury wants the world running on dollar stablecoins, but other countries? They're not exactly thrilled about handing over monetary control like that.

Think about it: if your local businesses start settling everything in $USDT or $USDC, your central bank loses leverage. Your currency becomes the side dish. No government wants to be a spectator in their own economy.

This is just the opening act. More countries will follow — especially those outside the dollar club. They'll frame it as "financial stability" or "protecting consumers," but really it's about sovereignty. You can't run monetary policy if everyone's using someone else's money.

The irony? Stablecoins were supposed to be this borderless, unstoppable thing. Turns out borders still matter when the people holding the stamps get nervous.
