US Senate Faces Tight Deadline for CLARITY Act Vote
US lawmakers have only a few days to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before the Senate begins its August recess, potentially delaying the crypto market structure bill until the 2026 midterm election season or later.
Senator Cynthia Lummis said she expects the Senate to vote before the recess, arguing that lawmakers should be required to publicly state their positions.
The House passed the CLARITY Act in July 2025 by a vote of 294–134, but the bill remains divided by disputes over presidential ethics, stablecoin rewards, tokenized equities and banking regulation.
Many Democrats are demanding stronger ethics provisions related to President Donald Trump’s digital-asset interests. The bill also faces resistance from Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who reportedly wants additional protections for banks.
To overcome a filibuster, supporters would need at least 60 Senate votes. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is reportedly considering scheduling a vote before Saturday, although no vote had officially appeared on the Senate calendar as of Wednesday.
Once the Senate leaves after Friday, it will remain in recess until mid-September, significantly increasing the risk that consideration will be pushed into the politically sensitive run-up to the 2026 midterm elections. $BTC
