On the surface, unbonding just sounds like “withdraw and wait.” But the waiting isn’t an arbitrary cooldown. It’s tied to Bitcoin’s own scripting and timelock mechanics, creating a window where previously committed BTC can’t instantly disappear if something goes wrong on the security side.

That changed how I think about it. The delay isn’t mainly about slowing users down; it’s about giving the protocol enough time to react if a Finality Provider behaves maliciously. BTC holders give up some liquidity during that period, while the network gains stronger security guarantees. Same mechanism, different outcomes depending on which participant you are.

I almost moved on after reading the high-level explanation, but the trade-off underneath was much more interesting than the feature itself. With $BABY and Bitcoin working together, the question isn’t just how fast assets can move—it’s how much certainty the system can preserve while they can’t.
