#baby One thing I realized while researching @BabylonLabs_io today:

People often use the word "trustless" as if it applies to an entire ecosystem. It usually doesn't.

Take Babylon's Trustless Bitcoin Vault (TBV).

The goal is straightforward: let BTC be used as collateral without relying on bridges, reducing one of the biggest trust assumptions in crypto.

That's a meaningful infrastructure improvement.

But then I looked at the market data.

- TVL is around $2.61B (DefiLlama), down roughly 19% over the past week.
- $BABY processed about $6.2M in 24-hour trading volume.
- Only ~13% of that volume occurred on DEXs, while ~87% was traded on centralized exchanges.

That doesn't mean TBV isn't working.

It highlights something more interesting:

Trustlessness is layer-specific.

A protocol can remove trust from its collateral layer, while its price discovery still depends largely on centralized exchanges.

Those are two completely different problems.

One is about asset security.
The other is about market structure.

Crypto often treats decentralization as a binary—either something is decentralized or it isn't.

In reality, every protocol sits somewhere on a spectrum:

• Settlement can be trustless.
• Collateral can be trustless.
• Governance can be decentralized.
• Liquidity can still be centralized.

Each layer has its own trust assumptions.

So the better question isn't:

"Is this protocol trustless?"

It's:

"Which parts are trustless, and which parts still depend on trusted intermediaries?"

That's a much more useful framework for evaluating crypto infrastructure.
