spent an hour on testnet last night trying to break something that wasn't supposed to break.
every "Bitcoin DeFi" product I've tested before makes you choose: wrap your BTC, bridge it, or trust some custodian to hold it while you borrow against a receipt. You're never actually using Bitcoin. You're using a promise about Bitcoin.
Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) is the first time I've tested a flow where that tradeoff didn't show up.
native BTC-backed borrowing on Aave v4, powered by TBV, lets you post actual Bitcoin as collateral and borrow USDC/USDT on Ethereum — no wrapping, no bridging, no intermediary holding your keys.
The part that made me pause: self-custody and cross-chain collateral aren't supposed to coexist. Every design I've seen picks one. TBV is betting it can give you both at once, and the only way to know if that holds is to actually try to find the seam.
So I ran the flow on the public testnet — claimed test tokens from the faucet, deposited native BTC collateral, borrowed against it. Didn't find the seam. That doesn't mean it's not there. It means Babylon needs more people trying to find it before Aave v4 mainnet integration.
