$SPCX Elon Musk’s SpaceX is reported to be in the midst of talks with the US Defense Department to provide what may amount to billions of dollars worth of data-center resources for operation of very large artificial intelligence models. Should the agreement go through the deal would see SpaceX take on a greater role within the US national security infrastructure which the Pentagon already uses the company for rocket launches, satellite communications and missile tracking systems. Sources that the Journal spoke to say that the arrangement may run into several billion dollars although at present talks are at an early stage and could still break down. At the same time the Defense Department is in a rush to secure high end computing power for agencies like the National Security Agency and for use at the front lines.
