I noticed something while tracing Babylon's own acknowledgements in their documentation, they're pretty direct about crediting BitVM3 as the technology their entire trustless vault design is built on. That made me curious enough to step back from TBV itself for a moment and look at what BitVM3 actually represents in the broader Bitcoin scripting conversation.
What seems interesting is that BitVM3 isn't really a Babylon invention, it's part of an evolving lineage of attempts to let Bitcoin execute more complex logic than its script language was ever meant to handle. Earlier versions relied heavily on large interactive challenge-response games, essentially optimistic execution where you assume correctness unless someone disputes it. BitVM3 seems to push that further toward proof-based verification instead of pure optimism, which changes how disputes actually get resolved on-chain.
It makes me think Babylon positioned itself less as a standalone protocol and more as one of the first serious production attempts to apply this primitive to something concrete, native BTC collateral for lending. The question that comes to mind is whether TBV's credibility is now tied to BitVM3's own maturity. If BitVM3 evolves, gets audited further, or reveals unexpected edge cases through the wider BitVM Alliance collaboration, does TBV inherit those same growing pains automatically?
I'm not completely sure that's necessarily a weakness though, since building on a primitive that's being scrutinized by an entire open-source community might actually be safer than something developed in isolation. Looking from the outside, TBV feels like an early proving ground for BitVM3 as much as BitVM3 is infrastructure for TBV. Maybe that is the real test ahead... anyway, time will tell👍
