According to CNBC, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he has seen the proposed framework for carrying out President Donald Trump's executive order on artificial intelligence and will meet with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles in Washington, D.C., this week. Altman is also meeting with senior Trump administration officials, lawmakers and economists to discuss OpenAI's upcoming models, cybersecurity and the U.S. position in the global AI race. The article said the Trump administration has become more active on AI regulation since Trump signed an executive order in June, and that the order gave federal agencies 60 days to develop a framework for evaluating AI models before full release. Altman's trip comes ahead of the Aug. 1 deadline, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is also on Capitol Hill to discuss open models and American leadership in AI. Altman said he and Sen. Ted Cruz discussed what it will take for the U.S. to stay competitive in AI.
