I went into TBV thinking the story was pretty straightforward. No bridges. No wrapped BTC. Less trust.

The more I read, the more I realized it wasn't that simple.

Getting rid of bridges doesn't make trust disappear. It just changes where it shows up. There are still governance decisions and emergency controls in the background, and I think that's something a lot of people skip over because it doesn't fit the catchy narrative.

What I actually liked was that Babylon doesn't seem to hide it. The Security Council is presented as a temporary layer instead of pretending the protocol has already reached its final form. To me, that's a lot more credible than claiming everything is fully trustless from day one.

I look at the universal challenger set the same way. More independent operators can make the system stronger and reduce concentration, but that's not the same as eliminating trust altogether. Those are two different things.

So I don't judge TBV by asking whether it's perfectly trustless today. I care more about whether each step makes the protocol rely a little less on trusted parties than it did before.

No system starts out perfect. What matters is whether it's actually moving in the right direction.
