I've been watching Babylon this week, and one thing keeps bothering me. Everyone talks about the BTC being staked, the rewards, and the growth numbers, but that's not what caught my attention. What caught my attention is the idea that Bitcoin is starting to secure things other than itself while never actually leaving the Bitcoin network.

The more I think about it, the more unusual it feels. A PoS chain can borrow Bitcoin's economic security through Babylon, but can it also borrow the confidence people have in Bitcoin? Security and trust sound similar when people talk about them, yet they don't feel like the same thing to me. One can be designed into a system. The other takes years to earn.

Maybe I'm overthinking the distinction. Maybe security eventually creates trust on its own. Or maybe that's exactly where the challenge begins. If a network is protected by Bitcoin's security, what is it really borrowing from Bitcoin besides the security itself?
