I've been thinking about what happens to Bitcoin holders once they're given a reason to stop sitting still. For years the appeal of holding BTC was partly its inertia nothing to manage, nothing to delegate, nothing to trust. Staking changes that texture, even when it's framed as self-custodial. I'm watching how quietly that shift gets absorbed. Maybe most people won't think twice about which validators they're securing, the same way most delegators elsewhere don't. It's difficult to know whether that indifference is harmless or whether it's exactly how influence quietly concentrates in any staking system, regardless of the cryptography underneath.
I'm not suggesting Babylon is heading toward the same governance fatigue we've seen in other PoS ecosystems. But the pattern of early, engaged participation fading into passive delegation feels awfully familiar. Technology can distribute keys. It can't distribute attention.
That's the part I keep coming back to not the security model, but whether Bitcoin holders, culturally allergic to active participation, will actually behave any differently here than everyone else has before them.
