Spent some time reading about Babylon, and it sent me down a rabbit hole that had very little to do with yields.
The thought that kept coming back was surprisingly simple: what if the biggest innovation isn't adding something new, but removing things we've accepted for years?
For the longest time, using Bitcoin in DeFi usually meant giving something up. Wrap it. Bridge it. Trust a custodian. Somewhere along the way those compromises started feeling normal, almost like they were part of Bitcoin itself.
Babylon seems to question that assumption. Instead of asking how to move Bitcoin somewhere else, it asks whether Bitcoin can stay where it belongs and still become useful as collateral. That's a very different way of looking at the problem.
I also found the connection with Aave interesting. Rather than building another isolated lending ecosystem, the idea is to plug into liquidity that already exists. In theory, that feels much more efficient than fragmenting capital across yet another protocol.
That doesn't mean everything is solved though. The processing delay made me stop for a minute. In some market conditions a few hours won't matter. In others, it could feel like forever.
Trustless systems don't remove trade offs, they simply replace one set with another.
For me, the real question isn't whether people will change their habits. If a protocol proves itself through reliability, security and deep liquidity, users usually adapt faster than we expect. The bigger challenge is showing that these ideas still work when markets become chaotic, because that's when every design eventually gets tested.
