The more I watch Bitcoin staking evolve, the more I think the real issue is not yield. It's trust.

Most systems eventually ask users to hand control to someone else in exchange for convenience. The assumption is always the same: people will trade a little security for a little efficiency. Sometimes they do. Until something breaks.

What often gets overlooked is that security is not just about preventing attacks. It's about reducing the number of permissions that can fail. Every additional intermediary, custodian, or trusted party becomes another point where incentives can drift away from users.

This is why Babylon caught my attention.

The interesting idea is not simply using BTC to help secure PoS networks. It's the attempt to do it without requiring users to give up custody of their Bitcoin. That reflects a different philosophy: strengthen coordination without expanding trust assumptions.

In practice, the hardest failures are rarely dramatic hacks that everyone sees coming. More often, they are small compromises. Extra permissions. Convenience layers. Quiet dependencies that accumulate over time until the system becomes fragile.

The projects that matter are often the ones asking uncomfortable questions about where trust lives and who controls it.

Because in crypto, security usually doesn't disappear overnight.

It erodes one assumption at a time.
