BlackRock, Coinbase & Strategy Pledge $15M to Bitcoin Security Nine of the biggest names in institutional Bitcoin have launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium today. Founding members: BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, Fidelity Digital Assets, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Galaxy, Anchorage Digital What they pledged: ✅ $15 million over 3 years ✅ Funding for open-source Bitcoin developers and researchers ✅ Post-quantum cryptography research as a top priority ✅ Coordinated by Mike Schmidt, Executive Director of Brink (volunteer role) What they will NOT do: ❌ No control over Bitcoin's protocol ❌ No position on protocol changes ❌ No pooled fund, each firm funds developers directly Bitcoin Core development has always run on limited donations. Wall Street now has a direct financial reason to keep the network secure, they hold the coins. But read the fine print: ⚠️ Individual contributions were not disclosed ⚠️ Recipients were not named ⚠️ Galaxy announced a separate $5M quantum fund on July 21, the consortium did NOT say whether it is counted inside the $15M Split across 9 firms over 3 years, that is roughly $555K per firm per year. Meaningful for developer funding. Small for BlackRock.
