Patrick Shyu, a former Meta and Google engineer, warned Bitcoin faces two “ticking time bombs”: quantum computing and weakening miner incentives as block subsidies shrink. According to BeInCrypto, Shyu said the halving cycle has cut the block subsidy to 3.125 BTC, with the next halving expected in 2028, while a “missing fee economy” could erode security as miners switch off.
Shyu said a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could eventually break Bitcoin cryptography, citing timelines ranging from around 2030 to 2035, and criticized the lack of a cohesive plan. He also said he sold all his Bitcoin after heavy losses tied to excessive leverage and liquidations when BTC fell about 50% from its October 2025 peak near $126,000.
