13 August – Sts. Pontian and Hippolytus
Popes & Martyrs

Pontian was Pope and Hippolytus an antipope who later reconciled. Both died as martyrs in the mines of Sardinia in 235. Their reconciliation is a model of Church unity.

“One Lord, one faith, one baptism.”

Rivals who became brothers in martyrdom — a powerful witness to forgiveness and unity in the early Church.

Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Sts. Pontian and Hippolytus, grant the Church unity, reconciliation, and courage in persecution.
