Apostle & Martyr
Son of Zebedee and brother of St. John, one of the first called by Jesus. Part of the inner circle with Peter and John (Transfiguration, Gethsemane). First Apostle to be martyred (beheaded by Herod Agrippa around 44 AD). Patron of pilgrims to Compostela, Spain, where tradition holds his relics rest.
