Rivers rising, flooding reported as Adverse Weather Alert remains in effect— authorities urge continued vigilance The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MoRDLG) is urging citizens to remain on high alert as the Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) remains in effect for Trinidad and Tobago following a full day of inclement weather on Tuesday, November 25, which resulted in localized flooding and rapidly rising river levels in several communities. The alert, issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. today. Although weather conditions showed some improvement in parts of the country earlier in the day, the Ministry warned that runoff from sustained rainfall has significantly increased water levels along the Caroni River, with levels expected to approach critical thresholds. Authorities cautioned that brief, localized overspill remains possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas of the lower Caroni Basin. Smaller watercourses and drains may also become overwhelmed during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly near the time of high tide at approximately 7:03 p.m. The Ministry confirmed that localized street and residential flooding occurred in areas within the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) and the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC). These incidents were described as short-term, and water levels have since begun to subside. At this time, there has been no significant or widespread impact reported.
