The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York has sentenced three key individuals behind the cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme AirBit Club. Scott Hughes, who laundered around $18 million in AirBit Club fraud proceeds, received 18 months in prison. Cecilia Millan, a senior-level promoter of AirBit Club, was sentenced to five years, while Karina Chairez, another senior-level promoter, got one year and one day. All three defendants pleaded guilty to money laundering and other charges earlier this year. The AirBit Club scheme, which defrauded investors of $100 million, operated from 2015 until 2020.
