The European Central Bank has opened a new round of its Digital Euro Innovation Platform, looking at how AI could interact with future digital euro payments.
The areas being explored include:
🤖 AI agents interacting with payment systems
💸 Micropayments between automated services
🔗 AI agent to AI agent payment interactions
⚙️ New automated payment experiences
Meanwhile, practical digital euro experimentation is planned for January to June 2027.
But here's the important part:
⚠️ This is an exploration phase, not a confirmed launch of autonomous AI payments.
And there is no official announcement that $LINK or $QNT will power these experiments.
Still, the direction is interesting.
If AI agents eventually start paying for data, software, computing and other services, interoperability and programmable payment infrastructure could become increasingly important.
