On Jan 27, Hong Kong Customs uncovered an attempted silver smuggling at Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point.
About 219 kg of silver, valued at HKD 6.1 million, was seized from a private vehicle.
Two men — a 46-year-old driver and 40-year-old passenger — were arrested and charged with attempting to export unmanifested cargo.
The case was presented at Fanling Magistrates' Court on Jan 29.
Under Hong Kong law, smuggling carries a maximum fine of HKD 2 million and up to 7 years imprisonment.
